En otras palabras, tercera edición
Perfeccionamiento del español por medio de la traducción
An invigorating introduction to Spanish translation for advanced learners — now in its third edition
En otras palabras provides advanced learners of Spanish with hands-on manipulation of grammatical, lexical, and cultural detail through the practice of translation (traducción). This challenging and enjoyable textbook — now in its third edition with updated texts, new exercises that reinforce concepts found in previous chapters, and additional partner and group activities — presents students with incisive grammar explanation, relevant lexical information, and a wide variety of translation texts and exercises in order to increase mastery of the Spanish language.
The two-part structure of the book allows students to work with grammatical concepts, the building blocks of texts, in the first half before moving on to a series of chapters on specialized usage, from sports and advertising to medicine. En otras palabras contains texts for Spanish-to-English translation as well as English-to-Spanish translation. Learning how to translate also provides students with invaluable experience of the inseparability of language and culture. Featured texts include authentic materials such as folktales, news articles, and legal documents that allow students to wrestle with the challenges of translation and learn to correct common errors.
Designed for a semester-long course, En otras palabras will provide advanced students with an invigorating linguistic workout and serve as an effective introduction to the practice of translation.
For Instructors
An online Instructor's Manual is provided free of charge to those who adopt the text in their classrooms and can be accessed at press.georgetown.edu.

Reviews
"En otras palabras: perfeccionamiento del español por medio de la traducción, Third Edition, is an instructor and learner-friendly text that teaches advanced grammar and vocabulary through both English-Spanish and Spanish-English translation. The broad ranging themes, activities, registers, and cultural and dialectical contexts used in the book make it the perfect companion for teachers and for native and non-native students of Spanish." — Brianne Orr-Álvarez, assistant professor of teaching and Spanish Language Program Director, the University of British Columbia
