Staying Dry

A Practical Guide to Bladder Control

Staying Dry is the highly acclaimed book that offers help to the millions of adult Americans who suffer from urinary incontinence—the involuntary passing of urine. Based on a program developed at the National Institute on Aging in association with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, it combines medical advice with an action plan that can help you solve an incontinence problem in a matter of weeks. It's a step-by-step appraoch that has helped up to 90% of the people who try it.

You've heard the myths about urinary incontinence. It's time you learned the facts:

Myth: "This is just part of growing old. People have to live with it."
Fact: Incontinence is not caused by aging. It's a symptom of one of several medical disorders.
Myth: "The condition probably isn't treatable."
Fact: 80% to 90% of known cases respond to the treatments described in this book.
Myth: "You don't hear much about incontinence, so it must be pretty rare."
Fact: Just beacuse people don't like to talk about a problem doesn't mean it's rare. In fact, half of all adult women suffer from urinary incontinence at some point in their lives. It affects one in five men.

If you have a bladder problem that's taken control of your life, Staying Dry is the book that will put you back in charge.

Reviews

"This book takes a straightforward approach to a problem that most people find too embarrassing to discuss even with their doctors. Incontinence is a problem that has many effective treatments. Staying Dry gives people encouragement to explore those treatments and offers hope for a cure. We recommend it for every family who would like to know more about theproblem."—ParentCare

"This client-centered workbook for managing urinary incontinence is a welcome addition to the self-help literature."—Journal of Gerontological Nursing

"This is a clearly written handbook that patients will find easy to read and to understand. Incontinent patients are in need of a reference book that specifically addresses them. Although the primary audience for this book is the patient, the physician may be interested in seeing how a difficult topic can be made simple."—Journal of American Geriatrics Society

"An excellent book . . . If urinary incontinence is a problem for you, this could be the best $12.95 you could spend."—Dr. Art Ulene

"I have seen the book and am impressed. Staying Dry is written in easy-to-understand language, and I am delighted to recommend it to my readers."—Ann Landers
