On the Path to Enlightenment

The Berti Aschmann Foundation of Tibetan Art at the Museum Rietberg Zurich

The Berti Aschmann Collection offers a comprehensive overview of the development and spreading of Buddhist sculpture in India, Nepal, and Tibet. It includes 7th century pieces from the Swat area, bronzes from Kashmir, from the Indian Pala dynasty, and from Nepal. These lead to the main part of the collection, the Tibetan sculptures from the 11th to the 18th century. Finally, Tibeto-Chinese bronzes created in China in the early 15th century under Tibetan influence are preresented by fourteen exquisite examples.
