Knowing the Balkans Otherwise
Decolonial, Feminist, and Transdisciplinary Dimensions of Knowledge Production
By Triglava
What are the hierarchies and politics of knowledge production in the Balkans in contemporary academia? Are the Balkans a testing ground for Western intellectual hegemony? If so, how and why do scholars, teachers, students, and researchers, reproduce these dominant forms of knowledge, however inadvertently?
The contributors propose feminist, decolonial, and other solidarity movements to challenge and transform knowledge power constellations. They uncover the sites and the effects of epistemic coloniality, subverting dominant ways of knowing a place and cultivating counter-narratives. The chapters present a set of different epistemological approaches and text-genres and pay attention to (auto-)ethnographic voices.
The book gathers both emerging and established scholars to contribute new ways of theorizing from the Balkans, rather than about the Balkans.
