Cuban Spanish Dialectology

Variation, Contact, and Change

Edited by Alejandro Cuza
Despite the significant presence of Cuban immigrants in the United States, current research on Cuban Spanish linguistics remains underexplored. This volume addresses this lacuna in Cuba Spanish research by providing a state-of-the-art collection of articles from a range of theoretical perspectives and linguistic areas, including phonological and phonetic variation, morphosyntactic approaches, sociolinguistic perspectives, and heritage language acquisition. Given increasing interest in Cuban Spanish among graduate students and faculty, this volume is a timely and highly relevant contribution to Hispanic linguistics and Cuban Spanish dialectology in particular.

About the Author

Alejandro Cuza is full professor of Spanish and linguistics at Purdue University. His primary areas of research include second and heritage language acquisition, child bilingual development, Spanish morphosyntax and semantics, bilingualism/multilingualism, Cuban Spanish.

"Exceptionally well designed by Alejandro Cuza, this volume brings together contributions from distinguished scholars of Spanish linguistics and Cuban Spanish in particular. The volume is the first of its kind to present novel analyses of a range of aspects of Cuban Spanish from diverse and up-to-date theoretical perspectives. It is a significant contribution, which reflects the vitality and intellectual energy of the field. Without a doubt, the collection will be of great interest to students and scholars of Spanish linguistics." — Carmen Silva-Corvalán, Professor Emerita
